Improving Public Systems

We develop institutional processes and frameworks to ensure accountable and efficient service delivery by public institutions.

India’s public systems are vital for equitable development, yet they face significant challenges such as resource scarcity, service fragmentation, and socio-economic disparities. Persistent socio-economic inequalities and entrenched institutional inefficiencies hinder service delivery, effective governance, and accountability.

While the need for citizen participation in governance is widely acknowledged, bureaucratic rigidity reduces the responsiveness of public systems to local needs. As a result, public trust erodes, and citizens struggle to access essential services.

At Anode Governance Lab, we address these challenges through a rigorous approach to institutional reform. We design and implement frameworks that enhance coordination, build capacity within public institutions, and align service delivery with the specific needs of diverse communities.

What We Do

01

Strengthening Institutional Capacities

We provide training programmes that enable public officials to identify challenges, develop solutions, and implement reforms effectively.

02

Fostering Interagency Coordination

By bridging silos within public systems, we enhance collaboration and optimise resource use across public systems.

03

Process Mapping and Redesign

Our operational frameworks streamline workflows, promote accountability, and reduce inefficiencies in service delivery.

04

Engaging Citizens

Citizens provide feedback through petitions and platforms, such Ward and Gram Sabhas, and collaborate in solution building through vigilance committees.

How citizens in Bachabornahatti village secured their right to food

In Karnataka’s Bachabornahatti village, the closure of a public distribution shop disrupted livelihoods and food security. Through collective action supported by Anode’s citizen engagement platforms, the community not only restored the shop but also set a precedent for citizen-led governance and accountability.
